Missions

Presbytery-Wide Mission Projects give churches an opportunity to pool resources and “do more together than we could do alone.” Our Mission Consultant, Barbara Kurz, will help you find a place to build your mission and ministry within the bounds of Providence Presbytery and throughout the world.

New Vision for Honduras: The newest collaborative Mission project currently underway is the building of a Cataract Surgery Center in Honduras. This Ministry is entitled New Vision for Honduras and has been in development since 2014. In December of 2018, the equipment was delivered to Honduras and made its way to our clinic location in Trinidad, Copan. Mission teams across the United States are expected to utilize the eye clinic to provide desperately needed vision care to this underserved community. Barbara Kurz, Mission Consultant, will coordinate medical mission trips to the clinic and answer any questions.

Dimes for Hunger: The Hunger Action Team primarily maintains the 36 year old Presbytery-Wide Dimes for Hunger Offering. This offering, traditionally collected in October (but now spreading throughout the year among some Providence Presbyterians), encourages members of our churches to give a dime per meal per day for 30 days to help hungry people within Providence Presbytery and the larger world. Half of all donations are used to support hunger relief agencies within the bounds of our presbytery, while the other half is given to alleviate hunger in other parts of the world. By the end 2018, Providence Presbyterians had donated $1.4 million dollars in dimes over the 35 years of Dimes for Hunger. Find out more.

Middle Eastern Missions: Currently our churches are very concerned about the plight of Syrian refugees and the crisis in Syria. A group of concerned Providence Presbyterians is working with the York County Syrian Working Group to educate Americans and provide support for refugees and education for refugee children. If you have questions about this ministry, please contact Helen Guinness.

Further Mission Opportunities: Providence Presbyterians are always looking for ways to assist their fellow travelers. From developing and staffing food pantries, donating clothing to shelters to opening up their churches to displaced people on cold nights, our churches share Christ’s love in their communities.
