Mission & Advocacy

Whether you are in leadership or attend one of our churches, are a mission partner or simply a curious observer, we each have a key role to play in the furtherance of God’s mission in the world.

Here you can learn more about mission, the mission work of Providence Presbytery, and be invited to join in this work! Our Mission Consultant, Eric Robinson, is also happy to have a conversation with you. Dave Keely is our Mission & Advocacy Moderator.

Mission began at Creation with God’s good intention for humans to commune with God and care for the Earth with love, stewardship, and justice. We humans rebelled against the goodness of our Creator. But, rather than abandoning humanity, God began and still continues a mission of redemption, reconciliation and New Creation.

This work of mission was accomplished through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and is continued through those of us who call ourselves Jesus’ disciples. Whether we are sharing the Good News with our neighbors, building a water purification system in Guatemala, collecting donations for Hope House, or helping a co-worker who is struggling, we are continuing the work to which Jesus called us.

So then, what does mission look like in Providence Presbytery?

First, it is the 53 churches in our Presbytery ministering within their respective communities the love, Gospel, and grace of Jesus Christ. It is also you, and the myriad ways you demonstrate the love of Jesus in your home, work, and community. But it is also us, believers from different churches, coming together for the work of mission. In this spirit of collaboration for mission, Providence Presbytery has opened space for what we call Mission Neighborhoods.

So, what are Mission Neighborhoods?

They are groups of Christians within Providence Presbytery who have a passion and heart for a particular work of mission, who come together to collaborate, grow together, and take part in a mission project together.

You are invited to read below descriptions of the different Mission Neighborhoods already organized and prayerfully consider if God is calling you to join! Or perhaps there is a different need in our community or world where you are passionate about making a difference, and would benefit from coming together with like-minded Christians. Let’s start a conversation about beginning a new Mission Neighborhood!

The leadership of each neighborhood is chosen by the Mission Neighborhoods, not by the Presbytery.
